Yes!

There are 2 IR sensors in the Desktop Rover - One points forwards, and the other points backwards.

Maximum sensitivity of the IR sensors would be from hits received directly from the front and rear, but oblique and lateral incoming fire will also trigger a hit.

Aim is quite critical here - The IR 'laser gun' emitter shoots a collimated beam which makes it more challenging to hit targets - the collimation limits the 'spread' of the IR beam. Long shots on an enemy from the side will require more ammo in most cases to trigger a hit. Consider this to be part of the built-in laser tag rules - which are the same for every Rover on the 'battlefield'
